Samuel started his charity to help really sick kids and their families get through what is most likely the worst time in their lives, to make their time more bearable on the ward and to bring some relief, fun and hope to their day.

Samuel was in hospital from September 2013 to January 2104. His treatment was brutal with around 13 different medications a day, many causing awful side effects. But throughout all of this he was an inspiration. He was still his old self – chatty and friendly (unless you brought medicine!). His courage and spirit touched everyone who met him and this helped us all daily.

He knew how painful, scary and lonely it is for children who have serious or terminal illnesses and conditions. He had such a big heart, and the desire to make a difference that he started by telling off the Matron of ICU, where he had been twice, that the food for kids just wasn’t good enough - we played a game as parents to see if we could guess what dinner was by looking at it. We never guessed. It was so bad.

Samuel wanted to do something about this and the charity began.

We help children in underfunded children's wards struggling with pain, discomfort, fear and depression by providing ….
  • Gifts and entertainment including music, TVs, Netflix, Tablets, and enabling the kids to keep connection with friends and family.

  • Sensory equipment, crafts, games consoles and game carts plus other supplies and educational inputs.

  • Equipment including hand held Accuveins which show veins and enable injections first time, massively reducing pain and suffering, beds for parents living on the ward to sleep alongside their children, heaters, fans and more.

  • Redecorating and improving the wards and the in-hospital environment - playroom redecoration and fit-out, ward re-painting etc.

  • Little things (that make a big difference) like toasters, teaspoons, a mini fridge – and our Comfort Kits full of goodies when a child first comes on the ward

……Relieving pain, loneliness, depression and anxiety and giving hope and comfort
